Peer nomination

This is when students are asked to nominate their peers as gifted. Usually this is best to be structured in some way - for example by giving students a set of questions such as "If the teacher was sick who would best replace them as a teacher?" or "Who would solve a very tricky maths problem most quickly?". It may be beneficial to give this set in combination with questions for other domains of giftedness.

Advantages

  • Peers may observe different aspects of students than teachers.
  • Peers will often ignore misbehaviour and focus more on intelligence and aptitude.

Disadvantages

  • Peers may be more likely to nominate their friends.
  • Peers may not be aware of the difference between giftedness, and high achievement due to hard work.
